This orientation was attended by 50 new policewomen graduates who will be assigned in every Police Station’s women’s desk to address women and children concerns. Police Chief Inspector Chyrel Boniao who is the Police Regional Office VII Chief of the Regional Women and Children Protection Desk was also in attendance.
The Club President, Myrna C Tan of Zonta Club of Cebu II, introduced her fellow Zontians present: Mildred Simolde, Dr. Debbie Limchui, Marietta Malinao, Terry Manguera, Marilou Canizares, and Irene Uy.
Z Pres Myrna apprised the group of graduates on Zonta’s full support of the club’s ZISVAW projects especially the sustenance of Pink Center in partnership with the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. She also mentioned the different forums and advocacies they undertake that are directed towards women empowerment and gender sensitivity programs. Other activities that Zonta Club of Cebu II have embarked on are economic livelihood programs in their adopted barangay in Mandaue, Barangay Alang-Alang. A literacy project to be housed at the Cebu City Library, “Alimbukad: Basa Pamilya” will be launched next week to pre-school parents. They will be taught on the proper way to mentor their young children to foster good reading skills and comprehension. Other projects include multi-sectoral/Inter-Org forums on parenting skills, anti-Vawc talks, forums that concern children (bullying, drug abuse), HIV awareness, medical screening for women, to mention a few of the numerous activities they have undertaken.
Mildred Simolde, Chairman of our women project in Brgy. Alang-Alang Mandaue Cty expressed her thanks to the attendees for their future services to support and assist women / girls and children. She also called for more sensitive service providers.
Marilou Canizares, the Project Chairperson of Protection and Rehabilitation of women /girls (WCFC project), expressed that this orientation is just a beginning of a series of capacitating and strengthening the service providers, especially the Philippine National Police, with the hope that they can come up with a concrete process flow of interventions for effective delivery of services to our clientele, the victims of abuse and violence.
Col. Cheryl Boniao will prepare an MOA for a PNP (Phil National Police)/Pink Center/ Zonta Club of Cebu II alliance for the intent to postion a policewoman inside the Center to aid in abused / rape cases.
