Hang a “Star of Hope” on the Zonta Tree for Women and Children

The Cebu City Public Library hall was a beehive of activity and sounds prompted by the singing of Christmas songs serenaded cheerfully by the choir of the Z Club of Childlink Learning Center.

The program started with the welcome address of Cebu City Librarian Ma. Rosario Chua followed by a short story “The Princess and the Golden Ball” read by Zonta Club of Cebu II President Myrna C. Tan with member Conchita van Gelder assisting her with the handling of the puppets. Member Margie Sy’s seven-year-old grandson Nathan gamely tackled the “frog turned Prince’s” role with ease.

Children, grandchildren, 20 kids from Barangay Kalunasan and friends of Zonta Club of Cebu 2 ushered in the first day of December, brimming with delight and excitement as they hanged their colorful star “parol” on the giant Zonta Christmas tree situated in the center of the Library.

Earlier, Club Secretary Petite Garcia gave a brief message to shed light on the meaningful gesture of stringing up the “Parol” star and its counterpart. Each star corresponded to a cash donation which will benefit the Club’s projects aimed at women and children.

Committee Chairperson Jenny Go was dressed as Santa Claus for this fundraising event which also doubled as a book campaign drive for Zonta’s ReadingCenter at the Cebu City Public Library.

Zontians were requested to bring children’s books to be donated to our existing ZontaReadingCenter inside the Children’s’ Reading Room. Ms Rosario happily accepted these additions to our expanding collection of children’s’ books.

The event joyfully ended with “Santa Claus Jenny” cheerfully unloading her “loot bags” to the children who were present.
