On-The-Spot Poster Making Contest

It was an early United Nations Day celebration for the Club this year when an On-the-spot poster making contest was held with selected 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students of the Bagong Lipunan Elementary School last October 17, 2012.  The theme of the poster entries was “Mga Inahan, Instrumento sa Kalinao sa Tibuok Kalibutan”  (Mothers, Instruments of Peace in the Whole World).

The twenty-seven participants were each provided cartolina and a box of crayons in special Zonta  backpacks donated by Zontian Elena Young.  After an hour and a half, a panel of judges from among the club members chose a first, second and third place winner.  Fourth grader, Felix S. Villegas Jr. won first place; sixth grader, Denmark L. Villariguez placed second and fifth grader Joefel C. Sandoy was third place winner.  The three winning entries showed different colorful interpretations of the theme — showing a sensitive appreciation of the nurturing nature and roles that mothers play as peacemakers in the home.

Some of the club members arrived in colorful national costumes – President Myrna Tan as a Thai princess, Cynthia Dagus and Marilou Cañizares in authentic Indian costumes, Edwina Wu in Chinese royal attire, Flor Miel in a Korean hanbok and Mariter Klepp  as a T’boli princess.  Myrna, Evelyn Ramas and Jane Llaban were promptly requested to judge the school’s pageant of students parading in various national costumes.
