Zonta Club of Cebu II recently launched the Alimbukad: Basa Pamilya program for the school year 2023-2024, marking its ninth year of partnership with Alimbukad Guadalupe ES and its fourth year with Alimbukad Cabancalan1 ES. This initiative aims to promote literacy and a love for reading among young learners.
The program has seen significant growth, with a total of 1,100 participants across three public schools. Each week, approximately 3,000 age-appropriate children’s books are circulated among Alimbukad families, providing ample reading material for parents to engage their children over the next eight months.
Wi Suan Tiu, Zonta Club of Cebu II’s Alimbukad Program Director, emphasized the profound impact of reading to a child regularly, which extends beyond simply fostering an interest in books. “It encourages communication skills, motor development, vocabulary growth, problem-solving abilities, and much more,” she explained.
By encouraging parents to read with their children, the Alimbukad program aims to cultivate the next generation of readers and learners. The expansion of the program and the addition of new partners signify a continued commitment to promoting literacy and education in the community.
