MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — In celebration of Women’s Month, we at Zonta Club Cebu II organized the “Bangon, Babaye: Coping Skills and Emotional Recovery Workshop,” an initiative aimed at supporting women affected by Typhoon Tino as they rebuild their lives.
The workshop served as the heart of the day’s activities, providing a safe and supportive space where women could begin their journey toward healing. Through guided sessions on safety and relaxation techniques, sharing personal stories and aspirations, and identifying their own resilient attributes, participants were encouraged to reflect, express themselves, and reconnect with their inner strength.
We witnessed how some stories shared were difficult and deeply personal, while others carried hope and courage. Each story, we believe, plays an important role in the collective process of healing and recovery.
The sessions were facilitated by Dr. Robby Echavez and his team from RBE Psychological Services, who led meaningful discussions and activities focused on emotional recovery, resilience, and moving forward after adversity.
We believe that recovery goes beyond rebuilding homes and restoring livelihoods. It is also about rebuilding confidence, reclaiming one’s voice, and renewing hope within individuals and communities.
Beyond Women’s Month, we are reminded that empowering women is not a one-time effort, but a continuing commitment to stand beside them as they rebuild, recover, and rise.
This initiative was made possible through the support and collaboration of partners and stakeholders who share our vision of stronger communities and empowered women. We extend our sincere gratitude to the City of Mandaue, especially City Councilor Hon. Jennifer del Mar, Chairperson of the Committee on Women and Family; Barangay Opao, led by Barangay Captain Hon. Nixon “Jojo” Dizon; Barangay Opao Councilor Hon. Joannah Marie Macalolooy, Chairperson of the Committee on Women and Children; and Ms. Apple Michelle Yu, Gender and Development (GAD) Focal of the City of Mandaue.
We also thank the participating barangays—Opao, Umapad, Tingub, Paknaan, Bakilid, Casuntingan, and Alang-Alang—as well as our workshop facilitator, Dr. Robby Echavez, and his team at RBE Psychological Services.
Special recognition goes to our organizing committees at Zonta Club Cebu II, along with all partners and volunteers who contributed to the success of this meaningful initiative.
We remain committed to continuing programs that support women’s well-being, especially in times of crisis and recovery.
Bangon, Babaye. Padayon.
