Hands United for the Earth: Zonta Club of Cebu II and Youth Volunteers Champion Environmental Advocacy in Consolacion

In a powerful demonstration of teamwork and environmental stewardship, the Zonta Club of Cebu II, together with student members from the Z Clubs of Our Lady of Joy Learning Center and Childlink Learning School, organized a successful clean-up drive at the Eco-Park near the Talabahan in Consolacion.

Working closely with local government units and the Department of Agriculture, the volunteers collected approximately 157 kilograms of waste from the area. The initiative went beyond simple litter collection. Participants carefully sorted and classified the trash, turning the event into a valuable hands-on lesson in waste segregation and responsible environmental practices.

Despite the warm weather and humid conditions, the enthusiasm and dedication of the volunteers remained strong throughout the day. The clean-up activity underscored the impact of community collaboration and highlighted the importance of teaching young people to care for the environment.

For the Z Club students, the experience offered a meaningful opportunity to see how small but purposeful actions can lead to lasting positive change in their community and help protect natural spaces for future generations.

The success of the event was made possible through the efforts of Mary Rose Villacastin Maghuyop, administrator of Our Lady of Joy Learning Center in Jugan, Consolacion. She coordinated the clean-up site with the relevant local government offices and the Department of Agriculture, and invited Cherry P. Ballescas of The Freeman to cover the initiative.

This environmental project reflects the ongoing commitment of Zonta Club of Cebu II to empower youth, strengthen community partnerships, and advance environmental advocacy through meaningful service.
