Planting Seeds, Growing Futures: Zonta Club of Cebu II and Youth Promote Sustainable Living Through Community Gardening

In a meaningful continuation of their environmental advocacy, Zonta Club of Cebu II and student members from the Z Clubs of Our Lady of Joy Learning Center and Childlink Learning School took part in a hands-on gardening activity designed to inspire sustainable living and environmental responsibility.

Following the Eco-Park clean-up, participants learned the fundamentals of planting and nurturing seeds. Guided by experienced facilitators, the students gained practical skills they can apply in their own homes and communities, encouraging them to grow vegetables and plants in their backyards.

The activity emphasized that caring for the environment is an ongoing commitment. By teaching young people how to cultivate plants, the initiative planted more than seeds in the soil—it nurtured a stronger sense of stewardship, self-sufficiency, and connection to nature.

Despite the warm and humid weather, the participants embraced the experience with enthusiasm and curiosity. The simple act of planting became a powerful reminder that small efforts, when consistently nurtured, can blossom into meaningful and lasting change.

Through this community-based initiative, the youth discovered that every seed carries the potential to create a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for all.

Special recognition goes to Mary Rose Villacastin Maghuyop, administrator of Our Lady of Joy Learning Center in Jugan, Consolacion, for facilitating the planting activity, arranging the venue at the Eco-Park, coordinating with the local government units and the Department of Agriculture, and inviting Cherry P. Ballescas of The Freeman to help share this inspiring story.

This initiative reflects the continuing commitment of Zonta Club of Cebu II to empower young people, strengthen communities, and promote sustainable practices that help protect the environment for future generations.
