Stitching Hope and Opportunity: Zonta Cebu II Empowers Women Through Livelihood Training

CEBU CITY — March 26, 2026 — In line with its commitment to empowering women and uplifting communities, Zonta Club of Cebu II continues to create meaningful opportunities through skills development and livelihood training.

Through the leadership of its Livelihood Committee Chair, Zontian Marilou Cañizares, four women from Barangay San Roque were given the opportunity to undergo a three-month dressmaking course sponsored by the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP). Leveraging strong partnerships with government agencies, the initiative aimed to equip participants with practical skills that can lead to sustainable, home-based income opportunities.

To ensure their success, Zonta Club Cebu II provided essential dressmaking tools and materials, enabling the trainees to create garments such as blouses, skirts, and dresses throughout the course.

The four participants proudly graduated on March 26, 2026, during ceremonies held at the Cebu City Hall Auditorium. A congratulatory message from Mayor Nestor Archival was delivered through a representative, recognizing the graduates’ dedication and achievement.

In a proud and inspiring moment, the graduates showcased their craftsmanship by gracefully wearing gowns they personally designed and created—symbolizing their journey of learning, creativity, and transformation.

In partnership with the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP), the program also celebrated the achievements of other graduates across various skills training courses, including:

  • 11 students in Plumbing
  • 15 students in Food & Beverage
  • 15 students in Culinary Arts
  • 11 students in Dressmaking
  • 20 students in Housekeeping
  • 4 students in Advanced Fashion
  • 10 students in Cosmetology

These milestones reflect a shared commitment to building stronger communities by empowering individuals through education, skills development, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Zonta Club Cebu II extends its heartfelt gratitude to Zontian Marilou Cañizares for making this program possible, as well as to President Lucy Carcel and Dra. Vivian Seno for their unwavering support.

More than just a graduation, this initiative represents new beginnings—where skills are transformed into confidence, and confidence into opportunity.
