Zonta Children’s Reading Corner (ZCRC)

The Zonta Children’s Reading Corner (ZCRC) at the Rizal Memorial Library and Museum (RMLM).  Through a Memoradum of Agreement with the City of Cebu, the Club renovated a 50 square meter area in the RMLM, provided it with furniture, new books and media equipment, with the purpose to encourage children and the youth in the city to read and rediscover books and to keep them out of trouble and away from drugs and other vices.

This project aimed to address Zonta’s special concern for children — children’s issues being necessarily women’s issues.  Today, the ZCRC conducts regular reading and story telling sessions with children from the different barangays and from public and private schools in the city and keeps a very active summer program for children where government officials, Zontians, prominent businessmen and students get involved in the story telling.
